At age 17 enlisted in Mexican War. During Civil War was Captain 10th In Rgt (Union). Came here 1869 as mill wright for Colonel Righter who then owned old Bay Mill. Married 1874 to Nancy A. Maness of CP Church officiating. Buried at Oakridge. Born June 1,1862 in Stoddard County. Married George A. Neal April 6, 1880, had no children. Leaves husband, a sister, Mrs. J. S. Kelley, Poplar Bluff, and 2 brothers: George W. Kitchens, Poplar Bluff and Will H. Kitchens of St. Louis." ~ Prospect News, February 9, 1905
