Land Records for Payne Descendants.

Submitted by Pam Smith

Most of our ancestors migrated to this county from other states.  These land grants from TN are part of the legacy of Macajah Payne who migrated here.

Micajah Paine/Payne acquired three separate warrants for land - 2 in Maury Co. and 1 in Hickman Co. from the State of Tennessee. These documents were located by first finding his warrants on the Tennessee State Archives & Library

Land Grants 1795-1905 - Index to Land Grants - P-Q film # 1002741.

#8173 - Micajiah Payne - Book 10, pg. 191 - 10 June 1828 - 60 acres Maury Co. - film 1012994
#8825 - Mecajah Payne - Book 11, pg. 72 - 10 Nov 1828 - 12 1/2 acres Maury Co.- film 1012995
#13365-Micajah Payne - Book 16, pg. 280 - 10 Feb 1836 - 200 acres - Hickman Co.-film 1013000

From the above we see Micajah owned 72 1/2 acres in Maury Co. and 200 acres in Hickman Co. giving him a total of 272 1/2 acres of land by 1840. The Hickman Co. courthouse burned and so the sale of that land is lost, however the following deed shows his sale of his Maury Co. land in preparation for migrating to Ripley Co., MO with his sons.
