SMITHSON, Charles Ray Apr. 2, 1922 - Mar. 30, 1997 "Son of Lewis Perry Smithson & Luranna Lou Murdock. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was an area supervisor of the MIssouri State Highway Department and a member of Dexter Church of Christ. On June 7, 1942, he married Gladys Holland in Doniphan. She survives. Survivors also include one daughter, Charlotte Gooch of Jefferson City, MO; three brothers, Bill Smithson and Allen Smithson both of Doniphan and Paul Smithson of Kennett; three sisters, Irene Brooks of Collinsville, IL, Lorene Reick of St. Louis and Pat Elder of Imperial, MO and three grandchildren."

SMITHSON DIES FOLLOWING
OPERATION -- Claude Smithson was
age 32, son of Mr. and Mrs. Seth
Smithson of this city, died in a
St. Louis hospital Sunday
following an operation which was
performed the preceding Tuesday.
The body was brought to this
city Tuesday and funeral
services were held at the
residence of his parents in the
east part of the city yesterday
afternoon, conducted by Elder A.
A. Taylor of the Church of
Christ. Interment was in
Oakridge cemetery.
The deceased was born and reared
in this county and made his home
here until five or six years ago
when he moved to St. Louis where
he has since resided. His wife,
who is a daughter of Bob Murdock
of Ponder, is ill in a St. Louis
hospital and was unable to
attend the funeral. Besides his
parents and wife he is survived
by four children. Probably a
Ripley County newspaper."

Kenneth Honeycutt of Doniphan.
The Rev. John Lundry officiated
at funeral services Friday in
Edwards Chapel. Burial was in
the Doniphan Cemetery."
